Training Center Sewing Teacher
YULIA TRI UTAMI
Yulia Tri Utami transforms lives one stitch at a time as the sewing instructor at PEARL's Training Center. She guides women through every step of their sewing journey, from learning to thread a needle to completing beautiful finished projects. Her expertise extends beyond basic instruction as she helps prepare custom orders, demonstrating the practical applications of the skills she teaches and showing students the income potential of their new abilities.
"I enjoy this work because I'm doing what I like, which is sewing," Yulia explains. Her passion for the craft shines through in her teaching as she finds deep satisfaction in sharing her knowledge with others. For Yulia, helping others represents more than a job—it's "part of the service that I want to do," reflecting her genuine desire to make a meaningful difference in women's lives.
What initially excited Yulia about joining PEARL was discovering the organization's vision and mission to prevent human trafficking among vulnerable women. She embraces PEARL's goal of helping women "have the spirit to be independent, strong and can earn their own income." This purpose drives her daily commitment to equipping women with sewing skills that can transform their economic circumstances and provide sustainable livelihoods.
Working at PEARL has profoundly impacted Yulia's own perspective on service and humanity. "I am very happy while joining PEARL which teaches a lot of human kindness—more respect for fellow human beings—and teaches us to care more about others," she shares. This environment has reinforced her calling to serve, making her work feel like a true vocation rather than simply employment. "I do what I do now because I really want to, not just because it is a job. I want to serve God with what I can do. For me that is in sewing."
Yulia's ultimate hope for her students is independence and self-sufficiency. She envisions each woman leaving the Training Center equipped not just with technical skills, but with the confidence and capability to earn their own income through sewing. Guided by the principle "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men," Yulia approaches each lesson as an opportunity to serve both her students and her faith, creating pathways to freedom through the practical gift of skilled craftsmanship.
