Rumah Mutiara House Mom Staff

As a House Mom, Abi has the duties and responsibilities to accompany and help recover children and women who are vulnerable to trafficking due to sexual abuse, domestic violence, and other forms of violence. This includes providing activities that enhance their soft and hard skills to prepare them for their future when they return to society. Furthermore, I help them regain their self-confidence and instill in them a sense of their worth in any situation. As part of the Rumah Mutiara Safe House staff, Abi will assure the everyday needs of each resident is covered and that each girl/woman feels cared for. She will be present for many night-time shifts as well as daytime needs.

She truly enjoys her work because, as an International Relations student, she has been deeply interested in issues concerning women and gender equality throughout the world, including in Indonesia and her hometown. Working in this position gives her the opportunity to contribute to positive change, furthering her dream of championing the rights of women, especially children. Abi says, “Although my efforts are small, I believe that these small steps can have a significant and far-reaching impact.”

She is confident that in the future, PEARL and Rumah Mutiara will continue to grow and help many people, especially women and children in need. Furthermore, they will become increasingly well-known, not only in Indonesia but also internationally. She is also confident that in the future, Rumah Mutiara will increasingly help women and girls recover, not just on a small scale, but also on a large scale. What makes her truly happy about her work is that she can have a direct impact on the women and girls who come to Rumah Mutiara, enabling them to recover and rebuild their futures.

The best aspect of joining the Rumah Mutiara team is being able to work and have direct impact on women and children who are vulnerable and in need of help. Furthermore, working at PEARL-Yayasan PESAN/Rumah Mutiara provides her with a positive environment that allows her to continue growing, supporting each other, listening to each other, and gaining a wealth of new knowledge that also prepares her to assist and rehabilitate residents.

Her favorite quote is from psychologist Carl Gustav Jung: "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." Abi says, “I love this quote because I choose to work in accordance with my dream: to help fight for the rights of women and children through my work at Rumah Mutiara, which helps protect and support the rights and well-being of women and girls.” From this quote, she hopes that when people work with her, they feel heard, fully supported in their potential, and not judged for anything. They continue to pursue their dreams because a future truly exists for them. With our help, their hope will not be lost, regardless of what happens to them.
